Last week we had the opportunity to get acquainted in detail with the women of modern Chinese society doc. L. Poškaitė's lecture "Stereotypes of Femininity and New Images in Contemporary China: From Excessive Femininity to Androgyny".

In the lecture, we learned how the concepts and ideals of femininity have changed in China since the 20th century in the 1980s, what factors influenced these changes and how they manifested themselves in popular and official culture.

The speaker began by presenting a variety of images of women, from "fellow women", ideal women to "funü 妇女" (female wife and mother), a romantic oriental stereotype of a woman who responds to traditional Chinese culture, to a neo-traditional "overly feminine", familiar oriental female image. XXI a. the world has changed, and with it the concept of femininity. At that time, the image of an androgynous woman (zhongxing 中性) began to emerge in China. This image has been strengthened and consolidated by the fashion and entertainment industries. "Tomboy" femininity began with Li Yuchun 李宇春, the manifestations of which can still be seen today.

Women's style and behavior are greatly influenced by women's magazines, which promote the family and domineering image of women.

We hope that during the lecture you have chosen the image of a woman you like best, and at the end of May we will meet virtually in a lecture on Chinese men and masculinity.
