  • can be useful in finding a job;
  • is a great way to test the acquired knowledge of the Chinese language.

Important Changes to the HSK Exam Regulations in 2026

We would like to inform you about a significant update to the structure of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) starting from 2026. In order to ensure comprehensive language proficiency, the HSK (written) and HSKK (speaking) exams are now combined.

Main update: mandatory speaking component
From now on, when taking HSK Level 3 or higher, it is mandatory to also take the corresponding level speaking exam (HSKK). When registering for one, you will automatically be registered for both, and the results will be issued on a single certificate.

Alignment of exam levels:

  • HSK Levels 1 and 2: The speaking component (HSKK) is recommended but not mandatory.
  • HSK Level 3 + HSKK Primary: Must be taken together.
  • HSK Level 4 + HSKK Intermediate: Must be taken together.
  • HSK Levels 5 and 6 + HSKK Advanced: Must be taken together.

Important information for candidates:

  • Single certificate: Candidates will receive a combined certificate indicating the results of both the written and speaking components.
  • Fee: Since the exams are taken together, a combined fee applies for both parts.
  • Assessment: To obtain full qualification, participation in both components is required.

This change has been introduced to encourage learners not only to understand written Chinese, but also to communicate effectively in everyday and academic situations.
