On the occasion of March 21, the Confucius Institute at Vilnius University celebrated International Tai Chi Day by organizing a lecture entitled “Tai Chi and Healing Qigong – A Path to a Healthier Life”, delivered by Dr. Junli Wang, a staff member of the Confucius Institute, sports instructor, and Wushu master.
The event brought together Tai Chi practitioners, primarily participants in our Institute’s courses, as well as everyone interested in Chinese culture and traditional health and wellness practices. During the lecture, Dr. Junli Wang provided a comprehensive introduction to the origins of Tai Chi and healing Qigong, the etymology of these practices, their historical development, and their place in Chinese culture. Participants learned about the most popular Tai Chi styles, their distinctive features and differences, while the lecturer also demonstrated the styles live.
Special attention was given to the Tai Chi practices taught at the Confucius Institute of Vilnius University. Dr. Wang introduced the styles offered at our Institute and explained how they can be practiced independently for personal training and well-being.
After the lecture, participants practiced Tai Chi and Qigong exercises together. The informal part of the event continued with Chinese tea and an engaging discussion about the benefits of these practices for both physical and emotional health.
We sincerely thank Dr. Junli Wang for her informative and inspiring presentation, and all participants for their active involvement, curiosity, and sense of community. We hope that this event will encourage even more people to discover Tai Chi and Qigong as a path to a healthier, more harmonious life.
