On 16 April 2026, Vytautas Magnus University hosted the Asian Cultures Fair, which brought together university students, school students, and everyone interested in the cultures of East Asia. Throughout the event, visitors were introduced to the traditions, arts, and cultural practices of various Asian countries, with opportunities not only to observe, but also to actively participate in a wide range of activities.
At the invitation of the VMU Centre for Asian Studies, the Vilnius University Confucius Institute also took part in the fair. The Chinese culture stand became a vibrant space for cultural discovery, where visitors could experience Chinese culture firsthand. Participants tried traditional Chinese calligraphy, explored the nuances of the Chinese language through playful tongue twisters, enjoyed live guzheng performances, and even had the opportunity to try playing the instrument themselves—a zither that bears some resemblance to the Lithuanian kanklės.
One of the highlights of the exhibition was a collection of Tang dynasty costumes, reconstructed according to authentic historical examples. Visitors could not only admire the garments, but also learn about the social life of the Tang period and the evolution of clothing, as well as try the costumes on and take commemorative photographs. The stand was further enriched by a display of books presenting Chinese culture, history, and art. These activities not only broadened participants’ horizons, but also created an open and engaging environment for dialogue and cultural exchange.
The activities were led by teacher Maggie, Vilma, Director of the Confucius Institute, and Eva, a sinologist and institute intern.
The event attracted a large audience, especially young people—university and school students—who enthusiastically participated in the activities, asked questions, created their own calligraphy works, and gained authentic cultural experiences.
