Tea culture is in constant movement, bridging ancient traditions and modern science. Today, both long-time tea enthusiasts and curious newcomers are turning their attention to innovative GABA teas — a fascinating synthesis of natural leaf processing and precise bio-technology.

GABA teas undergo a specialised oxygen-free (anaerobic) processing stage. Rather than altering the nature of the tea, this method allows the leaves to naturally synthesis high concentrations of Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) while revealing soft, deep, and nuanced flavour profiles. As China is heading towards non-stop innovation and technological development, we will observe how it intertwines with the tea philosophy in real life.

In Eastern philosophy, true focus comes from an inner equilibrium - a calm, centered mind (Ping Jing). Modern neuroscience echoes this principle through the function of GABA - it acts as a natural neuro-regulator, gently quietening neural overactivity, reducing stress, and fostering a clear, composed mindset without fatigue.
Together with L-theanine and antioxidants naturally present in tea leaves, GABA supports sustained concentration, smooth emotional balance, and physical ease.

During this session, we will taste and compare three distinct forms of GABA processing across different tea families:
GABA Shai Hong (Red Tea), GABA Da Hong Pao (Mid-high oxidation Wulong Tea) and GABA Black Pearl (Low oxidation Wulong Tea).

The tea session will be led by Max Roiko, a dedicated tea practitioner whose journey with tea began in his youth and has taken him across different countries and cultural traditions. With years of experience and a deep passion for tea, he shares not only flavors, but also the spirit and stories behind each cup, creating a meaningful and memorable experience for participants.
