Confucius Institute at Vilnius University is the first and biggest Chinese language and culture centre in Lithuania, established in November 26th, 2010 by Vilnius University together with Hanban (subdivision of Ministry of Education of PR of China). The institute organizes Chinese language and culture courses and various academic and cultural events.
By keeping its quite new traditions, every year Confucius Institute at Vilnius University organizes Chinese Culture Week, during which Chinese lecturers and masters are invited to present their field of studies and talents. VU Confucius Institute annually holds Chinese New Year celebration. In addition to these traditional events, public lectures, concerts, exhibitions are organized as well. The cooperation with high schools and cultural institutions is established not only in Vilnius, but also in other cities of Lithuania.
The institute is engaged not only into cultural, but also into educational activities. Those who attend Chinese language courses, have an opportunity go to summer camp in China, or to get Confucius Institute Scholarship for studies in China. In addition to these academic events, HSK – Chinese Proficiency Test, is organized. The certificate of HSK is acknowledged in the world and is required while applying to universities in China or for achieving Confucius Institute Scholarship.

In addition to language courses, various cultural courses are also organized. The range of courses is wide: from medicine to calligraphy, so everyone who would like get to know various aspects of Chinese culture can register for these courses. Since February 2014 Confucius Institute starts Chinese language courses for children.

VU Confucius Institute – is a mutual project of Vilnius University and Liaoning University. There are two directors of CI – from Lithuania’s side – Vilma Šniukštaitė, from China’s side – prof. Zhou JIe. Strategic decisions are made by the10 members of the Board of VU CI:
